Levels of Editing
Level 1 or Light Editing - Errors related to spelling, punctuation, capitalization, abbreviations, and formatting (headings, captions, and citations) are rectified and consistency is ensured in all these aspects.
Level 2 or Standard Editing - This is the most common level of editing. Errors related to spelling, punctuation, capitalization, abbreviations, formatting (headings, captions, and citations), and grammar (articles, prepositions, conjunctions, syntax, S-V agreement, tense, voice, pronoun-antecedent agreement, among others) are rectified. Vocabulary-related errors are corrected. Redundancy and repetitions are eliminated. Queries are raised for ambiguous and unclear text. Missing text is flagged. Consistency is ensured in all aspects. It is also ensured that the logic/sense in the context of the writing is preserved and the author's tone is maintained.
Level 3 or Advanced Editing - Extremely-poor-grammar writing falls under this category. Here extensive rephrasing is done.
